"Compere shows class"

By Liam Rudden

22nd July 1999

Classy Comedy Club - The Canon’s Gait – Edinburgh

Star of the night was Compere Raymond Mearns. He’s a big jolly bloke from Glasgow with an uncanny vocal resemblance to a young Billy Connolly. His razor-sharp audience rapport was improvisation at its very best. He worked the audience slickly, missed no-one, and built instant routines round the multi-national crowd. His apparently encyclopaedic knowledge of any topic thrown at him had the crowd begging for more and happily acting as stooges. This man could be the future of Scottish Stand Up. He deserves a wider audience.
